Exciting news! Mary Jo and Hannah will be hosting an in-person Dance Party on Friday April 9th at 9:15 before the library is open! The dance party will be held in our atrium, and attendees will have their own, socially distanced squares to dance in! Groups can start registering today. Each group will be limited to 4 people. Masks are required at all times, and we ask that you stay home if you are not feeling well!   Registration is required and must be done either over the phone or in person. So stop in or call today!

April Community Donation Drive

National Library Week is April 4-10, 2021. Gates Public Library couldn't think of a better way to celebrate than partnering with the Rochester Education Foundation to collect new books! REF is seeking diverse and inclusive books to get into the hands of school-aged children in the Rochester area. New book donations can be dropped off at the Gates Public Library and placed in the donation box located in the atrium of the library starting April 1st through April 30th.

It's time to pick up (or download) our next title for Nonfiction Readers Book Club! Live discussion will be in the Facebook group at 7:00 pm on the third Tuesday every month. Next month, we'll be meeting on Tuesday, April 20th. Come as you are - No live webcams, just fun conversations! Can you help? State Senator Cooney is partnering with Bethany House Women's Shelter to collect personal hygiene items for Women's History Month. Collection items include: pads and tampons, deodorant, soap, toothpaste, and toothbrushes. Collecting will occur from March 15 - 31. There are two local collection sites: Gates Public Library - library atrium, and Gates Chili Central School - The Office of Professional Development and Community Engagement in care of Mary Mann or Suzanne Goff.

New Bi-Weekly Tween Craft Instructions coming to Facebook!

Gates Public Library has been working to remove barriers and reach equitable access for the patrons we serve. In this effort, the library will no longer charge $.50 hold fees for items requested to be picked up at the Gates Public Library. To encourage efficient use of placing holds on library materials, there will be a $1 fine charged to the patron's account for any hold item that is not picked up within seven days.

Purses For Willow Domestic Violence Center

Gates Public Library will continue to host donation drives this year supporting a different organization each month. In honor of Women's History Month, we will be working with Willow Domestic Violence Center to be the recipient for March's community donation drive. For the month of March, please consider donating new or gently used purses filled with toiletry and useful items you would have wished to receive had you been in need of support. Include a small note of encouragement to lift our community up! Filled purses can be brought to the Gates Public Library and placed in the donation box in the atrium of the library. Toiletries: Shampoo/Conditioner Body Wash Perfume Tampons/Pads Feminine Wipes Eyeshadow Lipstick/Lipgloss/Chapstick Body/Face Lotion First Aid Kit Other Items: A book you love Journal Pens/Pencils Adult coloring book Reusable water bottle Note of Encouragement: Your purse must include a short and sweet handwritten note to the woman who receives your donation. This note is important as it gives the opportunity for women to build each other up and to personalize the experience of donating a purse to a woman who needs it
