Interlibrary Loan Services

We can request nonfiction materials from nearly any library in the world.  We submit requests for specific materials to the Interlibrary Loan Department of the  Monroe County Library System.  The request will go the nearest library that has the material available.  At this time we will only request nonfiction items more than one year old, magazine and journal articles, and microfilm.

Materials owned by other public libraries in Monroe County may be requested through the patron-placed holds feature in LIBRAWeb.  In turn, Gates also shares most materials with other libraries.  (Videos, DVDs and any materials marked "new" must be picked up at Gates.)  Gates' participation in this service is governed by an interlibrary loan policy.

There is a $1 fee for interlibrary loans.  An additional fee may be charged if the owning library charges to send an item.  The interlibrary loan department will notify the requesting patron of any additional fee before the item is sent.  The patron then has the option of canceling the request before a fee is charged.  The $1 ILL fee is nonrefundable.

There is a $.50 hold fee for an item obtained from a Monroe Country library.
