Parent-Teacher Materials & Services

The Children's Services Librarians at Gates Public Library are interested in and committed to helping you in your role as parent. To this end, we have specialized collections and services about which we'd like you to know.

WWC (WORKING WITH CHILDREN)

The WWC collection can also be called a parent/teacher collection. In it you'll find books to share with your child on sensitive topics such as AIDS, death in the family, etc; books that will guide you in choosing books and media for your child; and books on child development, to name just a few. This collection is found in the children's area.

PARENT INFORMATION BULLETIN BOARD

Part of our extensive bulletin board space is devoted to announcements about upcoming meetings, articles from magazines and newspapers and other information that pertains to parenting. Look for it in the children’s area.

SPECIALIZED BIBLIOGRAPHIES

Need to find a very easy book for a new reader, a title with African-American children or a historical fiction book? We have booklists, some that we have produced, that will help you find what you need. Just ask!

PROGRAMMING

A variety of story programs are provided for children of various ages, and the parents are included in the programs for the youngest (18 months to early 3's). We also have many programs that appeal to the whole family, such as sing alongs, puppet shows and educational programs. We often do storytelling, library tours and/or library instruction for Gates nursery, public and private schools. If your child's school would like a program, or if any group of parents you belong to would like a presentation, please let us know. We're here to help!

AND TO COME....

In the future we hope to provide more informational programs for parents, and we would welcome any suggestions you have for programs you'd like to see.
