CD-ROMs are an easy way for all ages to learn computer skills, as well as to explore a wide variety of subjects.

Our CD-ROMs are divided into two collections. The children’s collection (for pre-school through sixth grade) is marked with a “j” before the call number and is labeled with a pink teddy bear sticker in the upper left corner. The adult/young adult collection is located on the pegboard racks on the east wall of the library.

CIRCULATION POLICY
Loan Period: 2 weeks (non-renewable)
Limit: 2 per card
Daily Overdue Fine: $2.00 (maximum $24)

CD-ROMs are not available on ILL. CD-ROMs may ONLY be held at, picked up at, and returned to Gates Public Library.

DAMAGED MATERIALS/MISSING PARTS
For your protection, we will check for all contents at check-out and return. For CD-ROMs, the full replacement price  is listed on the pocket of each bag, and is charged for items damaged beyond repair or where an essential part is lost (i.e.: a User’s Guide). Replacement parts, such as the CD jewel case and the nylon bag, may be billed separately when they alone are damaged or missing. The Media Librarian establishes replacement prices for other damaged or missing CD-ROM parts.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
We have noted on each pocket what types of computers will work (i.e.: “MAC/WIN 95/98 means that it was designed for Macintosh, Windows 95 and Windows 98). More detailed system requirements are usually included with the product’s text(s) and on the bibliographic record in the online catalog.

SEARCHES
Most CD-ROMs can be located by adding “CD-ROM” to a word search.

DISCLAIMER
Please read before using CD-ROMs. Installing CD-ROMs on your computer may cause changes to your system. These changes may include added directories, new files and read-only files, including autoexec.bat, config.sys, and win.ini files. Current files on your directory may be overwritten, and current applications may be disabled. Windows 95 has a built in "uninstaller" application, but Windows 3.1 does not. Uninstaller utilities may be purchased for Windows 3.1. Uninstaller programs work best if they are installed on your computer BEFORE you install new CD-ROMs. They can track the new application as it installs itself and more readily uninstall it. The Gates Public Library is not responsible for system damage, malfunction, or the inconvenience which may be caused by any media you install or use from Gates Public Library. In addition, the library cannot assist you with any computer CD-ROM problems.
