Gates Public Library Adult Summer Reading Program 2006

BOOKS: A TREASURE

Dear Adult Summer Reading Program Participant:

Thank you for joining our Summer Reading Program for Adults. This year’s theme is "Books: a Treasure!". You may choose your own books to read (either library books or personal copies), or you may select titles from one of the reading lists provided in this packet. Our Librarians are always happy to make suggestions as well.

Important Dates:

Registration period: June 26-July 14
Reading Program: June 26-August 18
End of Program Celebration: (August 24 @ 7pm in the Library Meeting Room)

Who can sign up? Adults ages 18 and over

Here’s how it works:

  1. Fill out the Registration Form which is attached to this packet and hand it in at the Circulation desk.
  2. For each book read, fill out a "review" slip for the weekly prize drawing, and place it in the box  on the Reader’s Advisory Table across from the JOB section.  **Be sure your name and phone number are on the other side**
  3. Every Monday morning there will be a drawing for prizes. A $10 bookstore gift certificate will be awarded each week, as well as other prizes such as T-shirts, tote bags, free HOLDS passes and more. Winners will be notified by telephone.  After the weekly drawing we will put these review slips in notebooks for other readers to peruse.  There will be one notebook for Fiction and one for Non-Fiction.
  4. At the end of the program we will have a party to celebrate our 8 weeks of reading. This will give participants a chance to meet each other and to talk to each other about the books they read. We will have light refreshments and fun activities! The grand prizes (two $25 bookstore gift certificates) will be awarded at this time, as well as smaller prizes. In order to qualify for the grand prize drawings you must read at least 3 books.

Your packet should contain:

  1. A registration form (attached to the front of the packet)
  2. Review slips (for use in weekly prize drawings) Additional review slips will be available by the Prize Drawing Box.
  3. Optional reading lists
  4. A bookmark

Funding for the prizes was generously donated by the Friends of the Gates Public Library.
