Personal Equipment

In adhering to Gates Public Library's Rules of Conduct, ADA aisle requirements, safety concerns, and in focusing on achieving our primary library service roles, it has been determined that:

• library power sources cannot be used for personal equipment except in designated areas
• personal equipment brought into the library by patrons cannot occupy excessive space or cause disruption to library operations
• library furniture and equipment cannot be relocated for personal convenience

If you wish to utilize a laptop computer in the library, please use your computer's battery or work in a designated area and at your own risk. These guidelines apply to other personal equipment such as computer printers, cellular phones, and pagers. In responding to pagers, please utilize the public telephone in the library lobby. Please use your cellular phone in the library lobby only.

Thank you for recognizing that the primary purpose for library tables and carrels is to provide study space for patrons utilizing library resources and not to provide the public at large with personal office space. Violations of these guidelines may mean you will be asked to leave the library.

Questions by Gates residents on the adherence of this position paper to approved Library Board policies should be addressed first to the Library Director and thereafter to the Library Board of Trustees.
