Overdue Notification

Customers will receive notification from the library system for most materials at 2 weeks overdue, and for videos at 5 days overdue.  If you receive a notice for a material you believe has been returned, please contact Circulation Services at 247-6446 immediately.  A bill for replacement is mailed at 6 weeks overdue.

Damaged Materials

The current retail price or equivalent cost of replacement is charged for items damaged beyond repair.  Minor damage charges are established by the Library Director or Assistant Director.

Material paid for in full become the property of the patron and are stamped "discard."  Due to office space limitations, damaged materials will NOT be held more than 15 days, but the charges WILL remain.  Fines will accrue on items billed for missing parts or minor damages to ensure timely customer action on these bills.

Collection Agency

Delinquent accounts may be turned over to the library's collection agency, and the collection fee added to the balance due.

Lost Material Refunds Within 1 Year

Materials lost and paid for may be returned within 1 year of payment for a partial refund, but only if presented with the matching receipt.  Refunds will be minus the processing fee and appropriate fine.

Lost or Stolen Cards

Anything borrowed on your card up to the time it is reported lost or stolen is your financial responsibility.  Call the library immediately to report a lost or stolen card.

Holds

Library materials not on the shelves may be reserved, for a fee.  You will be notified when the item is available.  Please ask the clerk or librarian on duty for assistance with a hold, or use the Patron-Placed Holds feature in CARL.

Gates Public Library supplies older print and nonprint materials, but not videos, CD-ROMs, framed prints, toys, books on CD, eBook readers or reference materials (unless purchased with non-local funds), to other libraries' patrons.  New materials bought with local funds are not available for interlibrary loan for one year after receipt.  In turn, other libraries make certain parts of their collections available for use by Gates patrons.

Materials not owned by the Monroe County Library System may be obtained through interlibrary loan, for a fee.
