ELECTRONIC RESOURCES
Available at the Gates Public Library
Some electronic resources are available on your home computer,
courtesy of Monroe County Library System.
The rest are available on the computers at the Gates Public Library!
The first group are reached by going to www.libraryweb.org and clicking
on the “Magazines and Databases” link on the left-hand side of the page.
Some of the databases included are:
- Biography
Resource Center,
where you can look up articles and photographs of well-known people.
- Business and Government Databases: Business
and Company Resource Center, General
Business File ASAP, for comprehensive information on business and
companies large and small and the Catalog
of Federal Domestic Assistance,
which provides access to the website for the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance
and its databases.
- Full-Text Newspaper Articles, found in Gale
Custom Newspapers, Gale
Custom New York State Newspapers , and National
Newspaper Index and the Democrat
and Chronicle .
- General Research and Full-Text Magazine and Journal Articles available
in EBSCO MasterFile

Search. All are great places to start a research
project.
- Health-related information for the Rochester area can be found in
Clic-on-Health, which is locally-produced. Reference resources on health
are available through Health
and Wellness Resource Center & Alternative Health Module
which provide a variety of ways to locate health information.
- EBSCO General
Science Collection, which provides full-text articles
from a variety of science publications.
- WorldCat via OCLC FirstSearch, which provides access
to the catalogs of other local libraries, including high schools, colleges,
and universities.
- Rochester Images and Rochester
History provide rare primary source historical information
about our local region.
- HeritageQuest
is a top-ranked genealogy resource that includes census information, primary
source documents and much more.
- Opposing
Viewpoints Resource Center
is the online version of the popular series on controversial topics.
- InfoTrac
Junior and Primary
Search via SEARCHASAURUS make research easy and fun for children.
- Informe! and EBSCOHost
Espanol are for those whose primary language is Spanish.
- Twayne's
Author Series contains massive amounts of information on hundreds
of authors and their works.
- OCLC First Search, WorldCat Databases is one of the world's largest
catalogs, and can only be used in the library.
Unless otherwise noted, the rest of the databases listed are only available
in the Gates Public Library.
- ReferenceUSA includes directories of business and residential addresses,
and is great for market research!
- LitFinder includes Poemfinder, Storyfinder, and Essayfinder are all rich
literature resources.
- Novelist will help you find good fiction books similar to books you
have already enjoyed.
- SIRS provides a wide variety of full-text articles and graphics on current
events.
- Grolier’s Online includes The New Book of Knowledge for children; Grolier
Multimedia Encyclopedia for all ages; and Encyclopedia Americana for adults.
- Town of Gates Meeting Minutes is a unique, locally-produced database
of minutes from meetings dated 1948-1999.
