GOAL 1: Maintain a high caliber staff and a dedicated Board of Trustees.

1993,1994, 1995, 1996, 1997:

  • Regular staff training, plus many librarians attended state library conference. 
  • Performance evaluation process for most library personnel completed.

GOAL 2: Develop systems to evaluate library programs and services to meet community needs.

1993:

Document delivery study completed. 70% of requested items available within 30 days of request.

1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997:

All Programs and Services were evaluated in their respective years. 

1994: 

  • Reference transactions per capita study completed as 1994 output measure. 
  • High level of customer satisfaction evident from 1994 National Library Week survey of library patrons. 

1995 (also repeated in 1996 and 1997): 

  • In house use of library materials completed as 1995 output measure. 
  • High level of customer satisfaction evident from 1995 National Library Week survey of library patrons. 

1996: 

Browsers' fill rate study completed in September 1996 and compared with previous study as a measure of public success with OPAC. 

GOAL 3: Increase Gates community participation in library. 

1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997: 

  • New Gates residents' mailing continued.
  •  Director's weekly column Library Link, continues to earn public praise 

1993: 

All Gates residents received mailing on new on-line library catalog in September 1993 as a part of Gates Recreation's Fall brochure. 

1994: 

HOPE Grant (Helping Our Parents Educate) with Neil Armstrong School: specific outreach to Neil Armstrong. 

1994: 

  • ADA Advisory Committee met semi-annually. 
  • Drive up Window services expanded. Replacement for carpet quotes obtained. 

1996, 1997: 

Various aging building concerns explored with Town. 

GOAL 7: ESTABLISH ON‑LINE PUBLIC ACCESS CATALOG (OPAC) IN LIBRARY

1993: 

On-line public access catalog (OPAC) replaced card catalog September, 1993. 

1994: 

Staff began public classes on use of on-line catalog. 

1995: 

OPAC expanded to provide Internet access. 

1996: 

Staff began public classes on use of Internet with great public success. Infotrac access expanded to include remote (dial-in) access. 

1997: 

Planning and implementation of LAN system to provide graphical access to Internet.
