Continuing activities and services available for Gates residents:

Tutor training workshops scheduled year round in both Basic Literacy for speakes of other languages (ESOL). Workshops consist of 21 hours of instruction in a variety of formats. Most workshops are held at the main office at 249 Highland Avenue, Rochester, with some held in other community locations in the greater Rochester area, such as libraries and other
agencies. Volunteer tutors must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Tutor registration fee is $35.00, which includes all workshop materials.

Area served: Monroe County.

Requirements for service: Basic students must be over 18 years old and read below a 8th grade level. ESL students must be over 18 years of age and have limited English.

Fees: Tutors: registration fee $35.00 Students: no charges.

Procedure for referral: Prospective students: call for an interview appointment.

Waiting list: usually a waiting pool of students awaiting assignment with a tutor based on time availability and preferences.
