The Friends of Gates Public Library
are proud to announce that the long planned Friends
bookstore on the 2nd floor of the new Gates Public
Library at 902 Elmgrove Road has now opened.
Named ‘Booktique’ in a naming contest over the summer,
the winning name was submitted by Kathryn Heintz.
Kathryn Heintz cut the ribbon at the bookstore’s opening
on Tuesday, September 6th at 10 am with representatives
of the Town and the Library Board on hand with the
Friends Board for the event.
This store for gently used book donations will open an
hour after the library opens and close an hour before
the library closes, except on Saturday when it will open
a half hour after the library opens and closes a half
hour before the library closes.
Modeled after the very successful Greece Friends’
Secondhand Prose bookstore, ‘Booktique’ uses the same
pricing and categories as has worked for the Greece
Friends. Sue Swanton, Gates Friends Bookstore
coordinator, expresses her appreciation to the Greece
Friends for their mentoring of her Gates Friends
‘Consistently the public has generously donated many
high quality newer books which provide the store’s
inventory,’ noted Sue Swanton. ‘All proceeds from the
store will benefit Gates Public Library. We are very
grateful for the continued donation of newer, gently
used books and media to the library to help us help our
Additional volunteers for the bookstore are needed as
