MISSION STATEMENT

Recognizing its role as a major informational, recreational, and educational resource in the community, the Gates Public Library will continually respond to the needs of its patrons of all ages and backgrounds.  Further, it will increase its efforts to gain new users in the Gates community and attempt to anticipate the evolving needs of the multi cultural community.

By offering open access to its wide array of materials, services, programs and external resources, Gates Public Library will continue to be an enriching influence in the lives of Gates citizens.

LONG RANGE GOALS
2006 ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Children's Benchmark Survey
  • Collaborative programming with Rochester Free-Net
  • DVD & BOCD collection expanded particularly for children
  • Teen Blog created
  • Large Print collection expanded
  • Surveyed Young Adult residents
  • Young Adult & Media Librarians participated in two community events
  • Participated in county wide grant for developmental disabilities
  • Increased computer and Internet books
  • Christian fiction books and African-American authors increased
  • Increased GED and Literacy material in non-print format
  • Fiction, non-fiction, J booklists and DVD filmography done
  • Doubled number of Shut-ins served
  • Booklists and displays on relevant topics of interest to Gates residents done
  • Continue to provide local job listings

NEW OR EXPANDED SERVICES 2006

  • Continued collecting computer cartridges for recycling
  • Graphic Novels expanded for all age groups
  • African/American/Urban titles for Young Adults expanded with bibliography
  • Chick-Lit for Young Adults added
  • Adult Summer Reading program had record participation
  • Color printer for public access
  • Envision database added
  • Uninterruptible power source installed
